Braves L.E.A.D. is a two-tiered comprehensive leadership development program that encourages students to be both informed and engaged citizens. This is needed now more than ever in our world today. Based on the Social Change Model of Leadership, students will learn in a co-curricular model that incorporates seminars, campus events, and experiential learning. The goal of this program is to guide students through these experiences so that they can better grasp their function as change agents at individual, group, and societal levels. All students are encouraged and welcomed to participate in Braves L.E.A.D.
Braves L.E.A.D. goals are to:
- Gain transferable leadership and life skills
- Understand everyone has the potential to lead and leadership is a life-long process
- Inspire and be prepared to bring change and be active, engaged civic leaders
- Engage in purposeful community service and reflection
- Experience a purposeful, collaborative, values-based process that results in positive social change
Braves L.E.A.D. Tier 1
Throughout Tier 1, students will be able to strengthen their leadership skills and redefine what leadership means to them. Thorough identification of social identities, values, and commitments, participants will be able to start to understand how this interacts with their leadership skills and style and further take that to work with others. This tier can be completed within 20 to 25 hours.
Participants will be able to:
- Identify a personal set of values as the core of their own authentic leadership. core values and develop a sense of self
- Understand authenticity in one's actions
- Understand one's values within their commitments
- Collaborate with others and participate in experiential learning opportunities
Braves L.E.A.D. Tier 2
Throughout Tier 2, students will take their newly defined leadership skills they identified in Tier 1 and apply it through experiential learning through community engagement. Students will work alongside local nonprofits to create projects that combat a social change issue. Through mentorship, by Bradley University faculty and staff, this process will be guided to keep students on track and to help continued development of leadership. Students who have successfully completed Tier 1 of the Braves L.E.A.D. program are encouraged and welcomed to participate in this Tier.
Participants will be able to:
- Utilize their identified leadership skills and values and apply them to group work
- Identify a shared vision in working successfully towards a group goal
- Collaborate with others and participate in experiential learning opportunities
- Participate in social change and make an impactful difference in their community
