Biography
Dr. Baniya joined Bradley University as an assistant professor in the Department of Computer Science and Information Systems in Fall 2022. Before that, he served as an assistant professor in the Department of Computer Science and Digital Technologies at Grambling State University in Louisiana. Prior to his faculty appointments, he was a postdoctoral researcher in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of South Dakota.

Scholarship
Dr. Baniya’s research interests span information retrieval, IoT, cybersecurity, and bioinformatics. He received the Institute of Information Technology Advancement (IITA) scholarship for his master’s studies and the National Institute for International Education (NIIED) scholarship for his PhD. He has received multiple outstanding paper awards at IEEE ICACT (2014 and 2024) and a Best Paper Award at the IEEE AI IoT Congress in 2025. His achievements also include the Outstanding Achievement Award at the Faculty Research and Creative Works Symposium at Grambling State University (February 2019) and the Golden Pitch Award in New Orleans (2018). He received an NIH travel grant for the ISBRA 2016 Conference in Minsk, Belarus. In 2021, he was also awarded a National Science Foundation (NSF) grant as a Principal Investigator.
Service
Dr. Baniya is a member of IEEE and actively contributes to the academic community through a wide range of editorial, reviewing, and professional service activities. His service roles include serving as a tutorial chair, session chair, workshop chair, and special issue editor for various conferences and journals. In addition, he has overseen the comprehensive examination process for the graduate program in the Department of Computer Science and Information Systems.
