John McAlpin

Biography

John joined the department as chairman in 1982 from an applied position in the Navy and served in that capacity for eight years. Under John’s leadership the department expanded in size from five to nine faculty members and student enrollment expanded rapidly at both the graduate and undergraduate levels, a PC lab was created and installed and the first departmental server was added. In addition, John migrated the department’s curriculum into compliance with the ACM Curriculum standards. He also created the first Industry Board for the department.
