Pete Martin graduated from the University of Illinois in 1990 with a BS in Music Education. He taught orchestra in Morton Unit District 709 for 33 years and retired in the Spring of 2024. Under his leadership the program grew from one 6th grade orchestra of 8 students, one Jr. High orchestra of 17 students and one high school orchestra of 23 students to 6th grade orchestras of 40 or more students, two jr. high orchestras averaging 30 students a piece and two high school orchestras averaging 40 students in each. As a result a second orchestra teacher was hired and Mr. Martin remained in charge of the 6th thru 8th grade groups. Pete has been a guest clinician and adjudicator in central Illinois. Since retiring Pete spends time with his wife Laura, four daughters and eight grandchildren. He also enjoys training and participating in triathlons.
