Biography
Rosenberger’s professional journey has been defined by a dedication to advancing the counseling profession through the integration of education, clinical practice, and leadership. He has had the privilege of securing CACREP accreditation, developing innovative counseling programs, and mentoring future counselors while maintaining an active clinical practice that reflects his commitment to advocacy, diversity, and ethical care. Alongside his academic contributions, he has championed initiatives that expand access to services, strengthen community partnerships, and elevate professional standards. This path reflects both his passion for helping individuals thrive and his drive to ensure that counselor education remains responsive, inclusive, and forward-thinking.
Teaching
Teaching has been one of the most meaningful parts of Dr. Rosenberger’s professional journey, as it allows him to integrate his clinical expertise with counselor education in ways that prepare students for real-world practice. He has taught a range of graduate-level courses, including Professional Counseling Orientation and Ethics, Psychopathology, Assessment in Counseling, Crisis Intervention, and Psychopharmacology, each designed to build a strong foundation of knowledge, skills, and professional identity. Dr. Rosenberger’s teaching philosophy centers on creating an engaging, inclusive, and collaborative learning environment where students are challenged to think critically, apply theory to practice, and develop confidence in their professional roles. He loves witnessing students’ growth —from their first intake role-play to their final clinical experiences—and knowing he has helped equip them with the tools, resilience, and ethical grounding to serve their future clients effectively.
Scholarship
Rosenberger’s scholarship has focused on issues of diversity, equity, and ethics within the counseling profession, with particular attention to LGBTQ+ counselors, counseling individuals with disabilities, and addressing systemic barriers such as blood donation discrimination. He has presented research at national and regional conferences, often highlighting the intersections of social justice and counselor development, and he continues to integrate these themes into both his teaching and professional service. Dr. Rosenberger’s most meaningful contributions have centered on advancing conversations about access and advocacy in counselor education, including a forthcoming book chapter on ethical considerations in counseling students with disabilities and the development of standards for assessment tools and methodologies in substance use disorder counseling. Through these efforts, he seeks to bridge research, practice, and policy in ways that empower counselors to serve diverse communities with integrity and competence.
Service
Service has been a central part of Dr. Rosenberger’s professional identity, both within the university and in the broader counseling community. On campus, he has led program accreditation efforts, and chaired committees, contributed to governance, curriculum development, and faculty collaboration. Externally, he has had the honor of serving as President of the American Counseling Association of Iowa, where he has advocated for the profession at the state level, including successfully securing increased college loan forgiveness funds for individuals working in public service. Dr. Rosenberger has also contributed to the profession through standards development work for the Association for Assessment and Research in Counseling and through active involvement in community initiatives that expand access to counseling services. These experiences reflect his commitment to advancing the profession through leadership, advocacy, and meaningful collaboration.
