Grant McInnis, a graduate student in accounting, learned the inner-workings of financial giant PriceWaterhouseCoopers this summer. As an assurance intern, McInnis took on the tasks of entry-level associates, shadowed management and worked with a major PwC client.
Throughout the internship, McInnis experienced a positive workplace culture of PwC, which included a range of after-hours activities, such as softball, golfing, volleyball and occasional dining. These activities helped him become more comfortable asking questions of peers and supervisors at work.
“It is very important to try and find the answers on your own and look into potential solutions before going to superiors for answers; however, asking questions is very important to the learning experience,” McInnis said. “Everyone in the office was very easy to talk to and they all were happy to help whenever I needed it.”
McInnis utilized the Smith Career Center to improve his resume as he prepared for the internship search. His Bradley education, including ATG 530 (Professional Interviewing Skills), ATG 548 (Computer Assisted Audit Techniques), and ATG 457 (Auditing), was very critical during his internship. McInnis was able to communicate clearly with coworkers and clients, understand software used for auditing, and recognized auditing terms because of these classes.
“All the accounting staff at Bradley University was very helpful in giving me advice, not only to get the internship, but also to succeed during the internship,” said McInnis.
